How to Write an Essay - Part 5
This essay is another phase of ‘How
to Write an Essay.’ This phase focuses on the first paragraph of your essay. The
first paragraph of your essay must encompass the whole crux of your essay. It is
the introductory step, which builds the understanding of the reader regarding
the subject, which you are trying to focus through your essay.
The first paragraph of an essay
usually comprises of such aspects:
- Introduction
- Definition
- Quotation
- Describing a Historical Event
The initiation of your essay depends
on the topic of your essay. You must have a clear idea about the subject on
which you are writing, when you have complete knowledge about the subject; you
will find no difficulty in initiating the essay. Keep in mind that your first
paragraph must cover your whole essay, give a small introduction of each aspect,
which you are focusing – in the first paragraph.
Once you write a brief summary of
your essay in the first paragraph, you will find it very easy to proceed with
the essay and elaborate the subjects, which you have already mentioned in the
first paragraph.
Usually students do not care
about the first paragraph. Their start is not so convincing, they do not build
a strong start, and instead they aim to strengthen their essay from the middle.
This method is not helpful.
The right way of essay writing is
to focus on the first paragraph first, if it is convincing, then the reader
will be interested to read your essay. Try to make it more comprehensive and
enrich it with complete information. Then you can elaborate that information in
detail in the following paragraphs.
You need to focus on your first
paragraph in order to make a strong impact, try writing it in a simple and
decent manner. Try using punctuations, since it has a lot of impact linguistically.
Focus on the theme, which you are trying to highlight, try to write it in an
amazing and interesting manner, so that the reader can glue to it. The more
interesting you write, the more chances of attracting a reader – increase.
When you are done with your
paragraph, you need to focus on the most important part of your essay – the Thesis
Statement. A Thesis statement is often in the end of your first paragraph,
which will draw a picture of your focus and indicate that in what direction wills
your essay lead.
In this way, you can write an amazing
essay. The body of the essay needs to follow the first paragraph; link building
is the most important thing while writing an essay. Try to write your essay
with coherence; try to build links with your essay.
In the next edition of ‘How to
Write an Essay,’ you will learn how to structure the body of your essay. It is
important that the body of your essay link with your initial paragraph and
thesis statement. For more information or queries, you can always ask this
